Interactive Ideas Managing Director, Michael Trup, said "We have long been the leading distributor of Linux products in the U.K. The last year has been a massive upsurge in demand for the operating system. Our channels were telling us that the market is now ready for high quality games, especially those with an online gaming capability. We are thrilled to team-up with Loki who have by far the strongest line-up of Linux titles. We are particularly excited that Quake III Arena is following so closely on the back of the Windows release. The availability of major gaming titles is sure to spread the popularity of the Linux system as a serious alternative to Windows."
"One of the keys to broadening the Linux user base is to make people aware of the number and quality of Linux titles, including games, that are available," said Scott Draeker, president of Loki Entertainment Software. "Our agreement with Interactive will bring the industry's leading line-up of front-line games to users in UK who are excited about using Linux exclusively."
Quake III Arena, developed by the gaming wizards at id Software(TM), is the third installment of one of the most popular computer game franchises of all time. Quake III Arena provides an unrivaled blend of action, strategy and jaw-dropping technology as Linux gamers are invited to square-off against 32 of history's greatest warriors. It is the final word in deathmatch mayhem.
The Linux version of Quake III Arena will be packaged in a special edition collector's tin box. Loki will also include the Linux operating system, SuSE Linux 6.3, so that new users can try Linux and the game.
